Hi guys,
Which gear could one count the teeth of to quickly identify a Mk1 Cooper S (22G333) gear set? Is it 1st gear and how many teeth?

Regards
Al

For the Mk2 4 synchro boxes it sure is 18 on the first motion shaft coming into the box.

Don't know about Mk1 boxes however...

Mk1 Cooper S 1st motion shaft has 20 teeth. Deluxe and 850 have 19T.
S Cluster gear should have 22G1100 (early ones 22G232) stamped on it.

...or as it's also been pointed out, it can be stamped ME.

I finally found the ME stamp, it was faint and because i was looking for something else I couldn't see it.

This is the 3 synchro one Mick, different gear to Mk2- not sure if `ME' applied back then. BMC were pretty thorough with their stamping- before the Leyland rot set in...

so waht does the 22G 231 fit then??????
if the 232 is a straight cut i would presume, the 232 is helical but any ideas?

232 is helical, early Mk1 S.
231 is 850 and 998 3 synchro, B type gears.
