| Post subject: | Unleaded Petrol Additives? |
Recently I have noticed that there has been a lack of LRP at the local petrol stations. When I asked about it they said they were no longer restocking. Hence the question about Unleaded additives and whether to use premium unleaded or normal unleaded. Also what is the better additive? I went to shell and they were selling valvemaster or something like that. Has anyone had any experience with these? Cheers |

Premium equals higher octane, the higher the better. As far as additives I don't need em but I'm sure others here will recommend a good one. |

Flashlube is what I, and I think everyone here uses. It's great stuff! It will also clean out your engine aswell, keeping your plugs clean and stuff. Ya put 1ml per litre in, and a litre bottle of the stuff is about $17, so is pretty cheap! Premium is definatly the way to go. It's so worth the extra 8odd cents per litre. |

Doesn't matter... once ya car gets moving it mixes it all up. Ya don't have any problems with the additive sticking to the sides of the filler pipe, as there practically is no filler pipe! |

I have been using Moreys upper cylinder lube for 7 years and have not had any truoble all wokrs fine. |

i used flashlube in the old Crown when i had it, but now that I've switched back to the Mini (when it's running), I use the product Shell sells. valvemaster or some such i think it's called. it's bright orange. the reason i use it is that it treats 20 litres, which is usually spot on with how much i end up putting in, so i find it a lot easier. for fuel i either visit shell or bp wherever possible. optimax and bp ultimate seem to be the smoothest ive found. i'd never use regular unleaded with an additive, unless it was an emergency. |

I gave up using Valvemaster years ago, as it craps the plugs , ports and combustion chambers up. I've seen plugs totally clogged with the stuff. I changed to Flashlube. I know Flashlube works- I stripped the head off the 1310 for a look-see after 30,000 miles, it was clean as a whistle and the valve seats were still clean and shiny. You DO need to run something with unleaded fuel, if the head has no inserts... My son's Clubbie ran for 6 months after a valve job (using spare head) with straight unleaded, just to see what would happen. When we pulled the head off, the hot ex valves had pulled chunks of cast iron out of the valve seats. I got pics if you don't believe...

I only just started to run an additive 
Straight unleaded didn't seem to not work 
But Gordie told me to put something in the tank So i did. There is no difference .

Thanks guys, I might have been a bit slow to make the change over to PULP but just wanted to make sure that I didn't hurt the engine. Put the first tank in last night. Seems to be running quite smooth with Flashlube. Probably better than LRP. Cheers |

Have used Flashlube in Slidey since he first turned over after the completion of the build. Runs faultlessly have no problems with it whatsoever. Thanks to the Doc for the recommendation in the first place

Except standard unleaded. LRP has a higher octane rating than standard stuff, with premium being higher again. You won't notice any difference between running flashlube or not running it, but eventually you will wear out your exhause valve seats, then it will cost ya!! |
