tap blocked, tap not moving when you move the lever due to it being disconected, core blocked?

Does your engine temp sit normal?

I've got a lancer that runs cold with the heater on at nights - thinking it's a stuck open themostat. Temp gauge fall to nothing when driving, raises at traffic lights.

If your engine temp is ok, check the tap etc as above.

You can disconnect a few hoses (on a cold motor) and run some water using your garden hose to check for blocked heater cores or inlet / outlets on the head.

Just don't use too much pressure or this could damage the heater core.

The tap should have a cable that looks like your choke cable running to it.

See if it moves when you move the slider inside the car. Once again, put a garden hose in the system, and make sure water both flows and stops with the tap.

it's a common problem with clubmans isn't it - the tap on the side of the heater bogs up with calcium deposits...

It's attached on the heater itself. Access is by lying down on your back and sliding into the passenger footwell. It helps to be as supple as a chinese gymnast. One of the heater hoses goes directly to it so feel your way up and there it is, it will probably be ruined.

As Mick said it is on the left side of the heater and should have hosw in and hose out. Easiest way to see if it is blocked is to feel the hoses and if they are not getting warm/hot then it is a blockage

Post subject:  heater

if its not the heater tap it is probably the heater core is blocked , get the hose and jam it on one end of the heater and turn it on, often it gets mud and grime build up in it which blocks it up

it will be the tap or the core for sure. this stops the heated water going into the core and back to the engine. so when the fan runs its just blowing on the core which is still cool.

Its a matter of taking off the hose to the tap and the tap to the core. put the hose back on and see if that works. If not its also the core. have a Bucket ready

Send me a pm or msn if you need some help as I'm in the hills
