1. Karcraft for example sells one factory reconditioned in UK, for $127. I have seen exchange starters lots dearer from various auto electricians. 2. For about $170 you can get a NEW pre-engaged one to suit early Minis, from Heritage MG Parts, at Smithfield. 3. For $240 or so you can get a similar type (but different brand) pre-engaged one from Mini Classic and others. 4. For $40-$50 you can go get a Gemini one from a wreckers, also pre-engaged type. Need to enongate their mounting holes but they bolt straight in. Your choice... I run option #1 and when it dies I'll use option #2. ![]() Note- an S oil cooler won't fit in a roundnose with any of these pre-engaged ones unless you can move it sideways towards the radiator. |

Thank's very much Doc, I"ll look into the Karcraft option, it wouldn't hurt to have a spare and i'll check with an auto electrician up here as to reconditioning mine. |

Yes, it fits the early style Mini ring gear and engages from the front- so even if the old ring gear is a bit s/h looking from running the old bendix type, it works OK. Just need to elongate the flange holes, and check flywheel depth. If flywheel is a long way onto crank you may need to pack the geMini starter out a bit. ![]() |
