Coilovers in my opinion are a waste of time on a Mini and potentially dangerous.
You are supporting a car through 40 year old metal that was not designed to carry the loads that coilovers will put on them.

I have seen rear shocks punch their way through the top mounts without the extra loads that coil overs will give.

Spax are not good shocks. They are just well known shocks that fit Minis.

You mean they don't absorb shocks well, or are crap?

I have a set of adjustable gas spax on my car and it handles much better than my dad's which was on normal shocks, but now is a bit nicer with the gas rear kyb shocks I gor for nothing for it. But still doesn't corner as 'hard'.

Actually getting Spax for my dad's mini, but won't set them oh tightest mode (mine on my car are about in the middle of the settings.)

Have you ever seen Spax shocks on a race or rally car that was not a
Mini? (Or a Pom )

`Shock absorbers' as some people call them do NOT absorb shocks, that is the job of the springs- rubber or otherwise.
The correct term for shock absorbers is `dampers' which is what they really do- they damp oscillations in the springs.

Nah haven't, my cars aren't race cars. So I don't think I need to worry about suspension points breaking.

But no, I've never seen Spax's on any other cars, appart from some British Fords, but I don't regularly inspect shocks on race cars.

And Doc, thanks ok, makes more sense now.

They can break the mounts from road use.
Race cars get an easier life in lots of ways, they do not clock up big mileage and they don't have speed humps, etc. Road cars can get a lot more abuse.

I have seen and heard of a lot of Spax shocks dieing an early death. I am always surprised that they still make them.

I bought 2 new Spax adjustables for the Fiat 124S once. Never could adjust them to damp the same.
So I sold them cheap and bought Koni Sports. Those bugger last `forever' then you can get `em rebuilt.

BTW they are talking about the coil-over kit punching a hole through the mounting points..
