Post subject: | Early Cooper heater set up |
Anyone have info on early Cooper heater. In particular does anyone know if the cold air intake tube is similar to other BMC cars e.g. Morris Minor. The part I refer to is number 32 in the diagram. I have this system in my early 1962 Cooper 997. It has the heater box inside the car with the blower fan mounted on the RH inner guard. Any info gratefully received. Cheers wild_willy ![]() |

You know I've got one of those tubes if it's the one that sits in the engine bay facing forward. I reckon it's the same. Photo coming up...<EDIT> bugger, battery is flat in the camera, however, it is a vent turns inward slightly to avoid the gusset but I think it's what you are after. Swap ya for the blanking plate which takes it's place? |

Thanks Mick The tube has a flap that a cable controls from inside the car. The tube mounts on the rh side of the grill opening. Could be similar to the one you describe. Swaps is fine by me. Cheers wild_willy |

Ahh behind the grill....oh no not that end, I've got the one on the bulkhead which looks remarkably similar....I wonder why they have the drilled screwholes around the flange on it, as far as I knew they were welded to the right hand top corner behind the grill? The bulkhead one still looks similar however...Soz for the bum steer |

Hi By the picture it looks like these early cars had a different intake, the one on my '65 998 Cooper is the same as the one pictured in the ebay item linked by Morris 1100 and described by someone else as being spot welded to the body just inside the grille. Steve |

Hi Steve The early Coopers had this arrangement with a cable from the dash panel that could shut off the cold air remotely. My later Cooper has the same as your with a simple grill fixed to the rh grill panel with pop rivets. Might have to fabricate something if I cant find any info on where to get one. ![]() Morris 850s had an air duct fitting spot welded to the RH side of the grille opening but whether its the same as the early 997 Cooper part No32 I don't know. The air duct adaptor that attaches to the bulkhead on MiniDeluxe and later non S cars was not used on 997 and 998 Coopers. The air duct passed through the bulkhead and was sealed with a very large rubber grommet. I modified my first S heater to a fresh air heater using all the BMC parts. Not sure if the first type 997 heater also used this setup. My parts book doesn't have a picture or details of the first type 997 heater setup. If anybody knows if the rubber grommet and the Dunlop rubber air hose are still available please let us know. RonR |
