Could someone tell me what the best mini is for a beginner restoration?

anything that inspires is a good start.. how sad a unit you start with depends on your purchase budget, how much time and sweat your prepared to give up, your abilities at tasks like bodywork and mechanicals, how long you have to complete the rebuild, and your rebuild budget.
your choice should be guided by what you want to achieve too.. do you want a pint sized screamer or a original resto..
if you are thinking of an engine swap to something bigger the clubby has more room. generally being newer of the minis that are around for rebuild they may not be as rusty.
also they tend to be cheaper.
the roundnose generaly is a more popular style (as we have both types i feel safe saying this) LOL.
really you have to love the car you buy. without the passion for it you will struggle to finish what you started.
decide what YOU want for yourself, but consider the advice of others.

start with a clubman ( 71 - 78 ). They are probably the easiest to get parts for, and would be cheaper to buy than a round nose.

Plus they look great! :wink:

Beginner restoration = NO RUST! Start with a good shell, you may have to pay a bit more for it, however. Dani's dad is correct by saying inspiration is what you need. Start with a pile of rust and it wont inspire you. The more you get into it, the more rust you find, or the bigger the rust holes get, not very motivating at all.

As for mechanicals... it's alot easyer to get them done, even if they are stuffed or missing.

Rroundies are not that much more or any more then a Clubbie but they are harder to find I got 2 of them in last 2 months for $500 and $300 in good Nic but Not selling!
