Post subject: | Sheet Metal Gauge |
Hey guys Have a lot of rust work to do and unfortunately some panels that i cant get new. I was wondering what gauge of sheet metal should i be looking at for replacing some parts like small section of dor step Window sill where the rubber sits Kick Panel corner where floor meets outer and inner sill. Just the usual places. Can they all be the same gauge or should they be different due to different stresses. What tools can i use to work on the metal. Thanks guys |

Have a look in the How Tos for Aussie Mini businesses....try A Grade Panels (MEL), Newcastle Mini Dismantlers, Mini King or Karcraft in NSW then you can really say they are NLA. PS Coming along to the Mini Club tonight??? |

I've been using 0.8 gauge for everything apart from the floor. For sections that have a bit of shaping in them I've just cut them out of other shells or from Rover half cuts etc. Can agree with M-Machine being very good, only problem is the shipping cost for bulky items but they do have some hard to get items. Tool wise you can use hammer, dollies, slappers, a vice to hold things, vice grips, angle iron for helping to shape bigger items, oxy or a burner to shrink metal is also very handy. |

So i checked on the site and they have the parts.Just wondering how long they would take to get the parts in. Really looking for the door steps. 0.8 gauge???? Ok well i would be looking for this stuff for the kick panels and also for the boot floor. That would be about it. |

I use 1.6mm (16 gauge) for floor patches, that's the gauge they used here for floors in the 60s. I measured my 850's. UK floor repair front pans are only 1.0mm, but they do the job. |
