Just thought I'd show you guys what I've had to do to try to help my car warm up.

I run my splash guard to block out half the grille (it's that wide all the way down past the bottom of the grille opening) and I still have to run with the choke 1/2 way out even after I've been driving for ages. It was a maximum of 8°C today in Toowoomba.

Does anyone else's mini feel the cold?

Kind of reminds me of the Arctic heaters for VWs. They run on petrol.

Nah, never take the thermostat out. :) (It's a 82° one as well so not cold and not hot)

I'd hate to see how cold it would run if it actually had a heater!

At least I'm not the only one that is suffering. I'm thinking of blocking off the drivers side of the grille too - got some stainless getting around so might chop it up. I'll give it a few days though.

I live in a very cold place, I often have to leave for work at -6°
My car always starts first time and the heater heats up within 2 km.
If you engine is not heating up there is a problem. I would only think of blocking off the grille after checking everything else. (I am going to try blocking up the grill this year as a trial though)

Driving a 'normal' car has its perks.
But most of the time they are boring as all hell.

I have fond memories of Toowoomba as a kid growing up there - hasnt been this cold for a long time up that way - good to see the weather is trying to get back to the way it was years ago. I use perspex here in Canberra and instal it behind the grille with cable ties on the radiator side. I drill a few holes in it to stop the thing rattling while you are driving along. I have issues with the dellorto icing up and causing the engine to stutter(had -3 here at home this morning!!!)but when you stop it and let it heat soak for 5 mins it is fine.

My heater will not turn off as the tap is gone(seized so I plumbed it direct to the core...) and the car has never been hot since(not that it did anyway). Was nice to drive in winter but now in pieces awaiting a bit of massaging and paint.

Hooroo

I've just connected up my water heated manifold on the HS4 I recently fitted, we'll see how it goes over winter. The old HS2 used to ice up all the time, but I haven't had any trouble with the HS4 yet, and hopefully won't with the new manifold. Never had any icing problems with the Dell'orto but I have heard of many people that do, and I know people who swear that SUs never ice up, I guess it varies.
