Ok the story goes,
my mini was backfiring so I took her in for a tune up at my local mechanics, not a mini specialist but they usually do a good job...
They managed to fix the backfiring but now she idles eratically, lacks power and sounds a bit like a bug rather than the pur she had before...
Now I replaced the coil recently, plugs are a few months old and leads look fine, so I'm guessing its ignition timing?

The next problem is a slight oil leak from the outside of the inner pot joint (i think thats what its called :? ) is this really a problem or am i just paranoid?

And finally ive got oil coming out of the exhaust its leaving marks on the garage door :( does this mean rebuild time cause i hope not...

Will try get some pics when the camera gets home, i know its a little hard with me just describing it...

Any help would be greatly apreciated and thanks in advance everyone here is usually very helpfull

Cheers Alex

Cant really help you with the oil leak but have you found the coolant leak as well? It looks like coolant all over the underneath of the subframe.

This sounds like a manifold leak to me....
Get a peice of hose and stick it to your ear and shove the other end down near the manifold. move it round until you hear the leak. Fix that issue and the car should come good.

Cheers
Aaron

Check your timing chain cover gasket.

I had oil all over the place in that area when the gasket on mine went. It always left a nice big puddle of oil on the ground after parking it.

If oil is dripping onto that joint while its moving, its going to throw the oil onto whatver areas are exposed to it, makes things look worse than they really are.
