Just been wondering while I was swapping batteries between the sports850 and Moke again and thinking forward till when the Van is running . Is it possible or practical to get a quick release type coupler that works well (like on the boost packs you see people starting race cars with) and attach it to a battery along with a handle . What I'm trying to get at is I have 2 running mini's and 1 soon to be running that get very limited use and currently there's a battery sitting in each going flat and deteriorating . What I'd like to do is have one battery that fits into all of them and is a simple 30 second operation to put in and connect to whichever one I want to use .

I recently got a battery charger that is always turned on, they sell them at bunnings called charge and maintain, paid $50 for it, totally safe my mates a auto sparky, what they do is keeps battery topped up with charge and only kicks in when battery falls below a certain charge, great for modern cars, our land cruiser only gets used every now and then and we have this hooked up, before the alarm and immobiliser drained battery quick this beats it, we were going through batteries all the time, he put me onto it, great for collectors with a few cars, they look like a normal charger and use 240 mains power

I bought two wall mounted Projecta chargers like what were mentioned (KMART). Each of the cars (and bike) has two wires and a plug permanently connected to the battery, and I have two "extension leads" with the matching male/female plugs to suit the car and charger (I had to buy these separate from projecta through batteryworld). I can plug a lead into any of the cars or bike and leave it on.

My only issue now is that I just bought a new Absorbed glass mat battery for the bike and the charger only suits lead acid batteries - oh well, just need to ride the bike more often to keep it charged!

It's not so much the expense of the batteries , it's the real seldom use of them .... none are registered , I'm getting organised to join a club and put the sports850 and van on club plates but would still prefer a plug in system and one battery between them than having several on trickle charges topped up .

Thats the fellas , trust us sports its the way to go, these are plug n play style and so easy to use, i use to play around with swapping batteries, from boat 4wd and cars, but for $90 dollar battery and a charger, no worries jump in and drive away, really simple and would not look back

Cant be bothered swapping batteries and besides its better to leave it in there no damage to cars dragging them out and less chance of spilling acid or pulling a muscle

My father (ex telephone exchange tech, now tester and tagger) swears by those battery trickle chargers! Always has one hooked up to his A40... the batteries last as long, if not longer than a car thats used every day, whereas the A40 gets driven 4 times a year! (he needs to get it out more, hehe)

On the farm when I was young we used to file the terminal posts slightly oval and then give the clamps a hit with a FBH to make them slightly oval too. This allowed us to quickly twist and pull off the leads whenever the equipment was going to sit a season or two out and also gave piece of mind that if there was ever a short we could isolate the battery quickly.
