Post subject: | Photo request - Austin 1800 camper and thoughts |
I was chatting to a friend in Belgium and mentioned the Austin 1800 caravans that were around in Australia years ago and was wondering if anyone had photo's of them . Also , would it be possible to do a mini version ? They were basically a normal aluminium bodied caravan with an Austin 1800 nose (subframe , powerplant , bonnet , guards , scuttle panel etc) grafted onto the front and a windscreen and side windows put into the caravans body . I'd imagine it'd now be a nightmare to get complied and you'd basically have to do it starting from scratch but I wonder if it's possible . |

buh-zarre... so you're sitting inside the caravan when you're driving it.... there are so many things wrong with that mental image.... if you had a poptop caravan body, does that make it a convertible? |

I used to see one of them in the Blue Mountains in the 80's. They were built out of the 1800 ute but they looked more like the one in the photoshop of Ians except they used the 1800 doors and windscreen. |

Damn , I've got to start digging through my old Classic cars mags now to find the photo ... I thought the one I saw on the road had a flat screen and no side doors though , only the van door , could well be wrong though as it drove past me almost 20 years ago ![]() |
