Post subject: | coolant/temp hot |
Hi All, Was wondering if there is any specfic coolant I should use in my mini ,1964 morris 850(998 engine) and how much should I put in??,I remeber someone telling me that it can be bad for your radiator if you dont get the mix right. Also when I took the car out today was driving on the freeway and noticed that the temperature guage went up really quickly and the was some sort or whirring sound I could here from the engine.Pulled over let it cool down ,chucked in some water and it was fine. Also the guage went right back down for the rest of the trip(about an hour trip),till just before I got home when the temp guage crept right back up again. Any ideas on both of these things would be awesome, cheers. |

I use a 25-30% mix of Nulon concentrated coolant, and water. Never had a problem. I drain and refill both cars every 2 years. ![]() Check your radiator cap, if grooved on the rubber go buy a new one. |

i just run cheapo premixed stuff i buy from the warehouse (crazy clintz), it does the job, just dont run water. im always doing stuff to my car and stuff, so coolant gets topped up and changed very regulary. i just fill it to the top, what it doesnt want it spits out the overflow pipe so it doesnt matter No idea on your heating problem though sorry Brenton |

Thermostat might be on the way out? I know mine is. At night it barely moves up, in daylight hours and when on the freeway it creeps up to 3quaters in about 10 mins flat. I ain't no mechanic, just may be somewhere to check ![]() |

i use to be a radiator repairer with your water ie tap. go to a pet shop and buy some water conditioner (used for fish) add about 60 ml to the rad then 50/50 water coolant mix (water conditioner nutrises heavymetals and such, stops any alloy from corroding away) |

i run a minisport (UK) 2 core ST very good, perhaps to good for my cooper S , it barley gets over cold. ( I have had it professionally checked gague, thermostat, pressure) I would prefer it run to cool than too hot |

Whatever, don't buy the UK 3 core, they are crap. Not enough fins and the side brackets are attached flimsily. Better to reco your Oz one which has 16 fins/inch, that will only cost you $50-100. ![]() |

Cheers Brett I paid about $240 for the Super 2 core in Barney, that was 2 years ago. It works OK, but no better than the reco'ed 1275S/Mini Deluxe rad in my 1360. |
