this is the first time i have dealt with pot joints.

passenger side went in like a dream, the cage and balls stuck to the shaft and i just slipped it into the pot. easy peasy.

but the drivers side pot joint just does not want to go in properly. the cage does not go fully into the pot, the balls only seem to be partially engaged, and i cant get the ball joints to go in because it is not far enough in.

why is this so? is there a difference in cages side to side? i thought the pots were the same, therefore the cage, balls and the end of the driveshaft would be the same? what gives?

There are different size pots around, you will need to check their sizes,

The different size ones come from various reasons, some are from reconditioned CV joints & others are because of different manufacturers

measure them before fitting them.

maybe you have a small cage in the other side & therfore it will be a very sloppy / loose fit,,,& them maybe because of that you have a big cage this side, try swapping them around & see if that works

It`s a big trick hey? stuffs up quite afew newbys in the game

:-)

what a PITA

unfortunately the pots were from a the gearbox i am using, but the car never had pots so i got the driveshafts and cages from aaron. i will have to try swapping them over.

if that does not work, can i just relieve the cage a little where it appears to be jamming on the pot?

cheers
michael

and yes NDMOON, i can count :D the other ball is on the ground out of shot. they were all definitely in when it was jamming.
