Took it to a family friend who know's everything (literally) about SU carbies and cars in general.

Got it back this afternoon and oh....my.......god..........the difference is incredible. It now starts first time, turns off without spluttering, doesn't need warming up for 20 minutes, no longer splutters from 2nd and generally runs a hell of alot smoother. He said it could still be tuned further (and recommended the guys to go to in order to get it done) because she's still a little laggy on initial accelleration, but overall it is like a night and day improvement over what she was like before.

Turns out one of the dashpots wasn't even working, and the carbies were using the wrong oil. Something which my general mechanic didn't even pick up on upon 2 supposed inspections of the carbies.

So yeah, I highly recommend taking your car to an SU specialist. It's like giving your Mini a day spa and full body massage, she'll thank you for it and give you some in return!

Not sure about the fuel air mixture, but he definately didn't use a dyno (he's a retired old man that did the whole job out of his garage ;) )

It's the reason why he suggested I take it over to Dynotune at Braddon (here in Canberra) as the guys there are SU specialists and could tune it to perfection.

probably have to get mine done next year. (They were last tuned when my car was rebuilt in 2001) the car still starts first go, very rarely splutters on engine shutdown. (they were brand new then)
