Post subject: | Vertical seams sealant? |
Hi all, ![]() Maybe a bit of a dumb question but I'm in the process of restoring my morris 850 and am about to re attach the vertical seam covers. You know the cover strip that goes over the body welds on the 4 corners of the car that go from the bottom to the roof line. I've got new clips for them and will fix soon but want to know what the best kind of sealant would be for filling the gaps between it and the body for when I paint it. Doe's that make sense? I guess I need some kind of semni flexible sealant. I could just stuff selleys' no more gaps into them but there must be something more suited. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. ![]() All the best. Mal. |

I used Sikaflex 212, there are a few other grades but they all work. I bought it from Bias Boating but many auto paint suppliers carry it now. |

Do you also need to treat under there first with a rust inhibitor or is this Sikaflex/seam sealer stuff sufficient? Thanks. Ziff |

if there is any sign of rust on the seam then clean it all back to bare metal, then seam seal the edge. paint the insides of the seam covers and dont use clips to put them back on, the clips will scratch the inside of the seam cover and the seam itself. use sikaflex 202 (i think its 202) and clamp the seams back on and leave to cure for a day. make sure you clean off any excess sikaflex as it happens, and get yourself a big bag of rags and some prepsol. if done well you'll end up with a rust proof, clean looking job. always prime/paint/seal metal joins |
