Post subject:  rpm question

what rpm does a usual 1100cc run at 100km/h, lately going to work around the 100km/h mark tiny revs at around 4000rpm- 4500rpm, but before at a 100 it use to juz be 3500rpm. any ideas?

also the engine has a re13 cam in it with a modified single carby.

im juz curious cause its only happend lately and im started to wonder if it might be the clutch slipping

Joe - no and just to affirm the point - no

If a clutch is slipping then its slips and awful lot getting to 100km in the indirect gears. By 100 km the load is lighter and its less likely to slip as much.

You would mostly have clutch slip getting the car off the line or changing lower gears. That is, provided you are not covered in tyre smoke and suffering a traction problem from excess horses.

Hey Joe,
My car could hardly do 85kms an hour when my clutch was slipping so I doubt that its your clutch, I tend to agree with 9yatah that it could be a problem with your tacho.

Gerg.

P.s the open day is Sat and Sun Joe, try to get there on Sat mate...

If your clutch were slipping at a constant rate (the only way what you're describing could happen) then you;d be able to tell easy enough by getting to 100, then planting boot. Your revs will rise out of proportion to your speed.

We have a Smiths tacho in Barney. Not sure how old it is.
In cold weather it reads accurately. On hot days it can read up to 1500 rpm high.
Something electronic in there has had the biscuit, I think. Yours may have similar problem.

hmmm another thing is that ive noticed is at 100km/h using if i plant the pedal it has shitloads of power and takes off no problem but lately it hasnt been doing that soon as i plant it it sorta slowly builds up then takes off.

also ive noticed from a stand still i have to give it alot more revs before i can release the clutch ur it shakes. but it may also be something electric cause ive had nothing but issues with the electronics in the car since i bought it

Joe
When a mini shudders on take off its nearly always a clutch oil seal leaking oil onto the clutch. Other noises and shakes and thumps could be broken or worn engine mounts and engine steady rubbers.

Now put your mechanics hat on and do a diagnosis as you see it and tell me what you think.

wannabes juz jealous cause im still good buddies with screech :D , from what ive been diagonosing for the past week, its a clutch thing for sure juz trying to figure out what it is exactly, also the shuddering happens when the engine is cold and only on the down gearing between 4th and 3rd. on take off the shuddering is more of a stalling action
