Ok. So I've been talking to a nice chap who is into minis, and about the muddle up with the engine number regarding the blue slip. This is the information he had for me: 1969 minis did not have the body number plate SO I went out and looked at the wiper motor and it says 5 - 69 The shroud number is either YC111764 or YG111764. Is anyone able to give me anymore information on where to look for details about what year and model it could be? Thanks Cass |

Where are the wipers, are the both equally from the middle or over to one side (drivers side)? In the middle is pre 69 for sure Are there any holes, numbers or rust behind the master cylinders? Daniel |

Master cylinder should be from remembering your engine bay right in front of the steering wheel but obviously in the bay. |

I had a look where you said Zack, but couldnt see anything. That being said, its dark, and I was looking with a torch, I dont exactly know what I'm looking for and the engine is a bit dirty. I've hit my head on the sharp corners of the bonnet that many times tonight its not funny. |

He's right, but it's nothing to panic a bout. For a few months in 69 there was a period where there was neither a ID plate rivetted onto the body (above the master cylinders), nor was there the later type compliance plate. (this is usually rivetted on the triangular plate in front of the fuses in the engine bay). So if you have a plate, then it is either earlier or later than what you think. Try reading the dates off the distributor body (it is there near the model number). Then look for a date on the front of the window wiper motor. You can get dates from elsewhere as well but these are a good place to look as the window wiper motor usually seems to stay with the car. Morris 1100 or someone will be able to roughly date your car from you body number as well when they're about. |

You should find the body number stamped on the radiator shroud. It can be hard to read if it has been painted over. If you still have the rubber around the radiator this can obscure it too. Pete |

Pete From March? 1969 on (including the `69 ones with no compliance plate) the number on the shroud IS the body number. ![]() My `79 Moke had about 5 layers of paint over it... but it's there! ![]() <edit> re your earlier comment about the wipers parking on the driver's side, that would make it a 1968 or earlier... if so it would have a number stamped on the firewall and 2 holes where the ID plate used to be. ![]() Are there recesses in the panel in front of screen where the 2 wiper shafts come out? |
