This morning on my way to work I got in and put my foot on the clutch to take it out of gear and POP  It seemed pretty loud as it was 4:30 and not a sound could be heard. It seemed to come from the master cylinder area on the other side of the firewall?

The clutch still seemed to work ok and engaged all gears fine.

Any Ideas people?

Cheers

Did you pop the hood and take a look?

From what you are saying, the cap could have popped off your master cylinder. Maybe there was pressure in there?!? I know that if you are trying to change brake pards, and you push the wheel cylinders in without taking the cap off the reservoir...you get a POP and the cap flys off.....happened to me years ago!

I had a look under the hood and the cap was still on ... though the level of fluid looks a little high. Have to check it again in the light. Good to know about that though.

Check the pin that connects the pedal to the master cylinder. If someone didnt put the split pin through, it may have popped out. The clutch will still work, but have slightly less travel.

Steve.

those (plastic) master cylinders are cheeky little things
they have a rubber diaphragm that gets warped as the fluid level goes down
(i think to seal the fluid off from any air that can be vortexed in)
and thus the fluid level looks the same no matter how much youve got in there
you must take the cap off and look at that bastard rubber if its been sucked in and flipped
somehow i think this message just went over the top of your head
i can get pics ready if you want

I have had the return spring for the clutch lever let go, made a loud pop noise, clutch still worked but lever was just doughy to return. Was still hanging from the slave cylinder end. The hook on the other end of the spring had brocken due to metal fatigue I guess?

The spring gradually wears its way thru the little sheet metal bit on the end of the arm. I hit it with the MIG and then redrill the hole..
