There I was, minding my own business, buzzing along at 100 km/h and all of a sudden, the carby was jammed wide open and I was rapidly gathering speed at an alarming rate of knots..........the return spring on the old S.U. carby had broken and the butterfly was jammed wide open.

Managed to get to a service station and took the return spring from the clutch and used it as the carby return spring then used a few rubber bands in place of the clutch return spring.......well, it worked.

Just got to get a new return spring for the S.U carby and all will be back to normal :D

When it happened, it was dark, raining and about 6 or 7 km/s to the next servo. So I had to drive along with one hand on the ignition key (to keep turning on the electrics and keep going, then turn it off again when the speed got too high) I'm sure this did the car no good at all but at the time it was better than being stranded - plus, I was on my way to my 'other job'.....funeral pick up of deceased persons........so I kind of had to be there and no excuses.

Ah well, everything worked out well in the end (except, you could say, for the poor unfortunate person my partner and I were on our way to collect) for the funeral parlour.

Glad to see that you knew to turn the key off to fix the immediate problem. Some people think that if the throttle sticks you must crash the car.

I once finished a race at Eastern Creek by using the key to slow down.
