 Post subject: Indicator stalk

Hey my indicator stalk is broken it works going left and stays up, but i have to hold it down when i want to turn right. Is this fixable? does anyone have spare mini indicator stalks?

hope u can fix it, i found that they are pretty expensive when my high beam broke... ended up just making a new switch and putting it on the dash

maybe if you are inventive but usually no !!!

The cancelling arm is a plastic bit and once it breaks then its gone.

the 2 plastic things are still there....its so hard to hold it down when im driving........
i hold it down and turn. then turn the other way and i can feel it click back so i know the click back mechanism works. it has to be broken inside the plastics

They don't lend themselves to being glued as they actually deal with a lot of abuse even if you don't mean to be hard on them.

They should have been made of metal from the start.

Get yourself a working item and save yourself the stress.

i really want to fix mine, that ones not a leyland anyway it would probably be older because its not the right connector

mine broke too, so I went and bought a new one ($155 later) and it has a wrong connector too. Most of them on ebay seem to have the flasher as well, which i'm guessing are for newer (rover) mini's rather than leylands. I'm guessing there would be some way to change the connectors, if your handy with a soldering iron i guess!
Just make sure you either get the right connector or you can cut the wires and solder it onto your old connector. Might be a solution!

if its the plastic bit thats broken you wont fix it at all. Glue will not hold and the plastic is not suseptible to welding. Find someone whoes wrecking a clubbie and get one off them.

If it's the plastic latch bits broken, sometimes you can carefully swap parts from another s/h one.
If it's the later type with high/low beam as well, they usually stuff that part and the blinker parts are not busted.
I don't bother now- I just buy a new switch. Expensive but will last a long time.

Well in that case when you look at the indicator mechanism you can see that the steering column has a bolt with a lock nut on it, This is what cancels the indicators and the steering column is rotated either left or right.

It should be (in the straight ahead position) be exactly half way between the left and right indicator latch arms.

Commonly, when a steering column, rack is replaced or a wheel alignment is performed this locked bolt gets out of whack and is not equally distant for the latches. Often the steering wheel is simply taken off an repositioned with no thought to the indicators.

If what I have described fits your car in this case then its a fairly simple matter to undo the sterring column retaining bolt and the steering shaft mounts at the dash board and slide the steering column up and off the the rack. Then correctly reposition it and reassemble all the bits.
