can anyone help me with what would be causing this problem.

When I shift through the gears 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd I can fill a vibration coming from the front end as i release the clutch.

It only happens on the down shift only

How high are the revs when your down shifting?
I mean are you slowing the car down with the gearbox or brakes? Is it shudder through the pedal or vibration through the steering wheel?
Does it happen every time? Every gear?

Peter.

Definitely sounds like a loose bolt in your rear subframe mount.

It's probably caused by the 6 drive straps (3 sets of 2) on the flywheel that connect the diaphragm and backplate to it, and keep hose parts concentric with the flywheel.
Under drive load they are all in tension = good. BUT, when you downshift and dump the clutch out they are in compression. Not good for a bit of spring steel about 1mm thick... eventually you can buckle and break them, causing clutch or flywheel damage.

Many racers fit 3 straps in each set instead of 2, making 9 in all- if you do this the 3 ears on the backplate need machining for the extra strap thickness.
