Sorry for bugging you fallas im knew to this iv left the clubby till i think of a few other ideas Iv built a mini k from an empty shell My blue slip falla said he wouldnt pass my my little girl because she carryed seat belts in the back So upset i went home fumeing Did they ever com out with belts in the back my son said they had the option to hav them Any of you fallas heard any thng like this |

Take the rear belts and any plates that were added when (and if) rear belt mounts were installed and go to a different guy. They can't fail you on rear belts in a roundnose as these were never standard. I have a 1970 mini K with no rear belts and I pass rego every time and had the car re-registered just recently with no probs. |

If someone has put them in in the past (reasonably common)...then the inspectors would just think there is provision for them and say they should be there. Whether they were installed by a do-it-your-selfer or a garage don't matter....you have to either convince the guys that they are not standard or get them fitted and inspected by an authorised fitting station and be done with it. In a small town there ain't gunna be too many options 
If you do your homework and approach them again you might get away with it  good luck.

but i think the original problem was that the belts werent there at all? to be honest, i dont see why you can't have them there, all arguments aside. especially if you are going to have your kids in there. you may not need them for rego, but what harm does it do getitng them installed? my 2c |

I was saying, IF someone had fitted belts in the rear of a K..then this is what might happen or what you might do. I strongly recommend to Smokey that he "does his homework" and goes back to them to argue the toss....the inspectors have a book that they go by, if it is written in the book the Ks had rear seat belts (more likely that Minis had them from a certain date).....well, you have to convince them they are wrong (in the nicest possible way, or elevate it up their chain of command). |

My Mini is dated 3/70, no seat belt anchors for rear passengers it it. I don't carry people back there. it reduces the power/weight ratio.

Rear belts were an option from at least 65. They also were sold as accessories and you could pay the dealer to fit them. Quote: HYH2693 - Safety Belt (rear seat)
Retail price £4.10.0 - $9.00 Installed price £5.10.0 - $11.00 This would have been just a lap belt. Lap/Sash belts are also listed. |
