Mk 1 "S" block part number AEG312. Main bearing caps - no cast part No. But should have stamped 4 digit number that corresponds to the number stamped on the block (generally on the front of the block next to the water pump). |

Is this still the motor you were asking about before that's an unknown quantity , does it have caps with it ? The caps are matched to the block and other caps will require tunnel boring to match which is an extra expense if not there , something to keep in mind . |

Pretty sure all S blocks Mk1 and 2 have that same casting number on. All or most Mk1s were thin flange though I think. Thick flange block is more rigid. |

I just thought i'd add mr vizards book says thin flanged blocks can flex and cause oil leaks, that would have to be a pretty powerfull motor wouldn't it? Does putting the bigger bolts in the thin flange help this...anyone had this problem or is it bit of a myth... |

I've had a couple of Mk1 S thin flanged road motors, the 1st had standard 1/4" bolts and the 2nd had 5/16". Neither leaked oilz. I think it matters more on competition motors. ![]() |

Used thin flanged Mk1 blocks in my J car. Never had any dramas with oil leaks except when a cam follower let go at 8000rpm. Punched holes in front and back of block - oo ah!!!! |
