Went to buy a new Accelerator cable the other day and i walk in the store with Em and ask the guy at the counter if he has any mini throttle cables. Guy pauses, walks out the back and comes back a bit later with one in his hand covered in dust - looked like it had been out the back for 30years!

Now this is just a local parts shop and when he handed it to me i noticed the price on it written in texta $39.95 for a freaking bit of wire - i asked him what the price was and he looks at the pack and goes ahhh umm..Thirty niiiine..lets make it thirty dollars - i suitably told him there was no way in hell i was paying $30 for a cable and walked out..couldn't believe it.

I mean he wouldn't even get any business with the likes of Repco and Supercheap these days - some people just shouldn't be in business!

All adds up, especially when you break them once a month like Josh does...

I spend up and get the goochi you beaut teflon lined bike brake cables for 7 dollars. There's different gauges of bike gear or brake cable, the thicker brake cables are the ones to use.

There you go, 3 different kinds of cable with the cheapest being 10 bucks.

Great bunch of guys at Classic Motoring aswell, and incredibly fast delivery.

i made one on our corolla out of binder twin, it worked, then it snapped and we were in a paddock, so it went out the bonnet, and we had throttle with your hand out the window, interesting feeling that!!

Fair enough I guess, but was it an original Mini spare part - or just an after market bike cable?

I don't know what you mean by genuine mini - it wasn't made by BMC or Leyland or anything (as if they ever made them) but it was a proper throttle cable not a bike cable.

We bought a NOS Mini one from Mini King on the Sunday and it cost ~$5 and it was just as good!

This is why they try and charge so much for a piece of why cause people do pay that much for them cause they're 'genuine' and then they add 'cooper s' tax and what not...it's a bloody piece of wire that does a job.

Yeah, I meant genuine as in NOS, you know, something in a BMC/Leyland bag.

Sounds like you got the better deal from the dedicated Mini suppliers.

I'd be using genuine or NOS over a 'bike cable' simply coz its gonna be easier to fit as it was made for the job. Mini parts as so cheap.
