hey was just driving home from getting my starter motor fixed and halfway home engine note changed dramaticaly (sounds kinda like a rotary) and pretty big loss of power. pulled over to see what was wrong (i really have no idea) and some guy walking past said it sounded like my timing was out and my alternator must be loose, and then he said it was.

so i left it at my mums house which was very close and will go back tomorrow to look at it during the day, if this is the problem can i just tighten the alternator and 'drive away'? or will i have to take it back and get the timing reset or something?

is it unsafe to drive? as in will it cause damage to my motor or should i get it towed if i cant fix it.

If it is the alternator...it won't effect your timing...check the tightness of the mounting bolts and make sure the fan belt is correctly tightened.

If it is the DISTRIBUTOR that is loose.....start engine...carefully turn the dissy body to the right until the revs increase....back it off a tad. That should be close enough for you to get it to a garage.
