Post subject:  fuel leaking from tank

i just discovered today that fuel is leaking out of the neck of both tanks on my clubbie. How do i fix this, do i need to buy new tanks or just new necks?

As in where the neck joins the tank or the neck joins the cap?

Maybe don't fill your tanks to the neck? :D

i think its coming from where the neck goes through the chassis. petrol was really cheap here and i wanted to fill it up :D

Better still - see steve at brickworks - got a 7.5gal tank with the unleaded insert in it - has a flap on it and stops the fuel slopping out of the seal. I use 3mm rubber in my cap - stopped the leak and the subsequent staining around the filler neck(really really bad...)

Hooroo

Thats technicaly impossible - the chassis in your car is the subframe, you mean "where the neck passes through the body" right? If the cap is not sealing properly the tank will leak from the top of the neck (99% of cases). If like you say its leaking from lower down the neck (unlikely) the tank will have to come out, be emptied of all petrol and petrol fumes, filled with water and then re-welded.

Even if he does it will not solve your problem as you've got twin tanks. The rover ones are available in LH side only. The things to watch for are that the top of the neck is straight and flat and that the cap has a sound thick (petrol proof) rubber gasket that creates a tight seal.
