My new cam has no keyway on it ! Just a slot where the keyway should be. Whats the deal ??

Most likely, easy to replace. You will find them in other cams, or you can usually get one from from a grab kit. Don't know the length exactly (9/16 or 5/8 ) but it is a 3/16 wide woodruff (half moon) key.
The cam place will have them in spades.
