i have re attached the earth trap to the subframe,

cleaned teh plugs, theyre pretty new also.

its getting spark(nearly threw me outta the shed)

wont even start with petty doen the carby.

any tips tricks that may help

it will crank 4 ever, every know and then givinga little hint of life.

theres petrol coming outta the fuel line when u undo it so the fuel pump is working....

1) Pull the plugs and see if they are wet and black, swap them for clean ones or clean them.
2) Check for compression with a thumb over the plug holes.
3) Check for spark by holding the plug lead next to the head while spinning the motor. (While checking for spark the trick is not to touch the car at all to avoid getting zapped)
4) Drain the carby float bowl and top up float bowl with fresh fuel.
5) Refit plugs and it should start.

If this does not work, ignore steps 1 to 5.

Just check that the distributer isn't loose and was bumped while removing the front . If the timings out , take the rocker cover off and turn the motor over by the fan (with ignition off) till the rockers for cylinder 4 are between opening (exhaust just closed , inlet about to open) this is top dead center for cylinder 1 and set the distributer so the points are opening for the lead to cylinder 1 at that point . It should be close enough to start the motor and then you can tune from there .

You know I have agonised over a non-starting mini for hours onbly to realise that the leads are in the wrong sequence. Even though i convinced my self that they were not.

Just a thought. Everyone can gain from my ignorance.

Done that too Mick..........check that the spark plug leads go to the correct plugs/cylinders, 1-3-4-2 anti clockwise in the dizzy, with number 1 at around the 4 o'clock position.........but you already know all that

Hooroo

i had a mini once that wouldnt start, fuel was comming out the fuel pump, and spark was getting to the plugs... turned out the valve letting the fuel into the carby bowl was garbage, fixed that and away we went, perhaps some fuel is not getting to the bowl mate have u had a look in there?
