Post subject: | pcv valve help |
Hi everyone. Just joined the other day when my Cooper S started giving me grief. Does anyone know the ins and outs of pcv valves? I took the pcv valve off my Mk2 S, because it was hooked up all wrong. It was all oily so I gave it a clean. When i had it all appart I noticed insidde the base part is a type of valve and spring arrangement. Well it was a type of valve in mine, because it actually fell out. Not the rubber bit and spring that fits into it, but a very small thing like a 5 cent piece size. It was right inside the base part of the pcv. Before you couldn't see through it and now you can see straight through. The engine is smokey now and it never was before. I wonder whether oil is being sucked straight through it now? Thank you. Sounds like something is wrong or missing. Take a look at this diagram and see what wrong. ![]() |

The disc valve (part 16 above) should be about 40mm in diam. I have seen them corrode away to nothing. Check the rubber diaphragm for holes ![]() |

The flexible rubber diaphragms go hard with age, then don't close off properly with vacuum. Result= smoky motor untill the diaphragm warms up. If it feels hard, replace it too. ![]() |

Ah Haaa!!!, not alot of people would know this, but there is also another valve plate/flap thing under the 4 pronged thing ""INSIDE" the valve body... If that has broken off &/or fallen out then it`s rooted, get another one |

I've noticed them, and thought the same when he said he could look right through it. Can they be replaced? I thought they were built in or something. |
