My 1st car, which I bought 2nd hand in 1967, was a '63 850 with 24,000 miles up. It was the proverbial one owner (retired lady school teacher) car and I kept it until about '71 when, at about 75,000 miles, I traded it at the same dealer (Larke Hoskins Hurstville, NSW) on a brand spankin' Morris 1500.

The 850 was stock when I got it and, because the old lady had been sluggin' it around in 3rd or 4th gear most of the time, a valve grind and decoke, along with neat head shave and port & polish, plus some wider rims really made that little thing the beez kneez. It never skipped a beat except for a frozen fuel pump one cold winter morning in Lithgow. One south coast trip with 3 mates up and a downhill run, we got the speedo needle around to 3/4 full on the tank gauge! Those were the days, don't do that today at home or unless under adult supervision >:)

I wonder where he is today? It was English Grey with red upholstery and NSW rego CMJ 697.

My first Mini now belongs to MichaelB from this forum. It's a Mini Deluxe, NSW rego AJR.413. :)

I didn't sell it to him, it went through at least one owner between us.
