I just got my Weber fitted and its sitting right in front of the hole were the speedo goes (like they all do). The sound just feeds straight through, so Im thinking of putting some sort of foam or cover over the hole in front of the Webers filter. Ive seen minis with this in use but whats the best material to use and how to go about it.

In my Cooper S i have 2 big bits of foam jammed into the back on the speedo then i just have the standard sound proofing mat on the firewall, seems to work ok, keeps the noise down a bit.

doogie

Mine's like Doogies at the moment but I'm going to screw a sheet of 1.0mm aluminium on there, then belt the **** out of it with a VBFH for filter room.
Yep I do like the noise but with a 1360 breathing through 38mm chokes it's too bloody LOUD!! :P
Firewall might actually be one if I plug the bloody hole up.. another reason.

You can just get a nice plastic cover off a Clubman (I don't know which models exactly). I used to have a nice orange one on my Red mini, not a great look.

I've got an early Clubby cover in my wife's roundnose, all the wires were lengthened and an early Clubby speedo cable fitted by the PO. I can sit in the car, undo speedo cable and dismantle the Mk2 S binnacle. :D
(Unfortunately, my car previously had the hole hacked out to fit a Ramflo filter on a Russell Eng manifold (now removed) so a Clubby cover won't work now.)

Kev. I've got an allum. one like that. I made a cutout for the wiring loom with a grommet that sits on the plate and a thin slot above it so that it could still be removed w/o cutting the wiring loom. Has some foam on it that Clarks Rubber advertised as sound insulation but the whole setup doesnt seem to do much. Plus you can still smell the fumes. I might seal the whole thing better and use some decent insulation eventualy.

I'm going to put a grommet in the firewall for the wiring, then screw the sheet on and seal it. I had a plate screwed on there once before but it nearly cut the wires going into the big hole....

I don't have an engine smell problem, the Smiths PCV valve is mounted on the Redline Weber manifold into both ports, it works great on the road. :D

I dont know what to do. I was thinking of just puting some felt, and some how sticking or screwing it over the hole. Or using foam. Any suggestions. :?:

I've picked up some 1" thick foam that has a thin layer of lead material through it and aluminium layer bonded on one surface - weighs a ton but enough to cover the whole firewall only cost $8 at the reverse garbage shop
