Post subject:  opinion about this flywheel -

hi all i wanted to get your opinion about this flywheel. i did read most of the past discussion on flywheels.

This says it is an english imported one (in discussion it was said english imports were very poor).

So is this one a very poor one and is not recommended, or it is very good?

And how does this one compare to other lightened wheels (weight).

I was thinking about getting one for my small bore engine.

Any advice help about this wheel would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou Brenton

Sorry i forgot to include the link here it is:

Is there a link or a photo that you are missing perhaps?
Otherwise I IMAGINE that flywheel looks fine, although I wouldn't use it at high revs.

Hi,

The flywheel pictured is said to be from minisport UK, in which case it should have mini sport cast in the centre piece.

The previous discussions on flywheels did NOT say UK flywheels were all bad, however it did point out the the Mini Spares UK ultralight flywheel (similar design to that on ebay) have been shown to be warped, bent and out of round. Partly due to slap happy welding of the ring gear. These are the same ones supplied through mini sport in adelaide. I have heard that the problem has been rectified in newer production, but once burned, twice shy!

MED, KAD, Minisport UK, ultralight flywheels are all of excellent manufacture.

All of these ultralight flywheels are good at high RPM, and will not self destruct unlike over-lightened standard ones.

The weight of this one will be lighter than any lightened standard flywheel, and only bettered by a few hundred grams at much greater cost.

I'd ask him for evidence of it's origin, but as long as it is a genuine UK steel flywheel it should be OK, being wary of the possible distortion of the mini spares UK variants.

Cheers
Matt
