are they not designed to come apart from the seat ?
they lack the adjustment holes and wingnuts of all the other minis i've had.

i took to it with an angle grinder to get them off :(

also the bolt mounting points for the seat mounting brackets inside the box section are rooted, what should i do?

the brackets are welded on, after i grind them off, should i weld on a new set or can it be repaired somehow?

Put a photo up of whats there because yours should be the same as other mini's . Some really early ones had a slightly different setup but your's should be conventional . Someone may have done a dodgy at some stage ?

Too hard to see...but the seat part looks normal...looks like a hole in the end of the flat...

They look normalish , there should have been a bolt with a wing nut through the hole in the bracket and the hole in the seat leg . What was through there before you butchered it ?

well thats what im saying, there is no provision for a bolt and wingnut, the ones on the later ones are square so the nut doesnt turn, but this one had a sort of a pin which looked similar but had no wingnut, i have no idea how it was attached, as there was no way to remove it.
considering everything was buggered i wasnt worried about chopping it up.

The real early 850's had a different design, like this:

Early ones (definitely UK; not sure about Oz versions) had the bracket rivetted to the seat. You removed the seat by undoing the two bolts that go into the crossmember.

Cheers, Ian

Just because there's no square doesn't mean you can't use the wing nut and bolt , they aren't very tight anyway(there's a limit to the force you can put on a wing nut) and most have wing nuts on a normal bolt so you can grip it with a spanner . The bracket looks like a normal 850 one , how was the seat fixed to the bracket ?

Most 850s here did not have the common 3 hole adjustable brackets. My passenger seat in HaHa is out of a `64 850. It was rivetted to the single hole brackets by the factory. :x
Mr Anglegrinder to the rescue, it now sits in the usual 3 hole brackets. :D
