Hi all

Just been to look at a clubby for my son's first car.

Not too old respray but it's not the worlds greatest job, some shallow dents and runs in the body and a couple of obvious spots of bog in the hinge panels. Interior is fairly untidy but otherwise body looks ok.

Went for a short drive, motor pulls well, gearbox seems a bit iffy, doesn't like down changes third to second - bit crunchy and jumped out of gear (second) on down changes twice.

Engine is missing the top steady bar so I'm wondering if this may have something to do with the difficulty in selecting 2nd (as the engine moves the linkages change relationship with the motor and extension housing) or am I completely mad?

The car has 12" wheels and black plastic flares, the left front wheel seems to sit further forward in the wheel arch than the right front wheel, car steers straight and tyre wear seems even, could this be:

- mal aligned sub frame
- poorly fitted flares
- something major bent that doesn't affect steering

Any ideas on costs to have a new headlining installed?

What is a carpet set worth these days?

Suggestions on price given this info?

The car is registered til the end of the year and apparently will come with a roadworthy.

Cheers

kevan

first car.

walk away, and buy something in good condition

in my experience with minis, when the gearbox has crunchyness and pops out of gear, it is never the engine steadies, and always a worn gearbox

Can't imagine anything bent so much that wouldn't effect steering

maybe...

- poorly fitted guard :!:

some wheel alignment places will align the front wheels with the back ones rather than making them straight

the caster is out, there is no adjustment on a standard mini,
it is affected by the tie rods, a bent one will affect caster.
you can get adjustable tie rods to adjust caster.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caster_angle

the mini you describe doesnt sound like a very nice car at all and it only takes one lemon to ruin your experience with minis

hmmm check the caster rods and see if they are asjustable, if yes then there juz out of adjustment if no could be juz the flares were fitted wrong like mine

There is no such freaking word as JUZ!!!!
If one caster rod was out of adjustment the car would not drive straight.

car was in a garage so no water problems, paint is honest (but not great) - it's a good 10 foot car would be fair to say, floors seem intact including the boot

price seems to be negotiable from around 5k
