| Post subject: | Handbreak lever |
Was there anything covering the workings of the handbreak lever on a 65 deluxe? My car shows no sign of any rubber boot, or cover. I hope im wrong and i hope there is a nice bit of moulded rubber that covers the lever like the gearshift lever. |

i know they are 13 years apart, but on my 78 clubby there is a vinyl gaiter that fixes to the carpet with a popper. you can get aftermarket ones as well if you're not after originality. but if you are, im sure someone will be able to give you some details 
if you can't find one maybe you could make one? if you're handy with a sewing machine or know someone that is, i suppose. |

I don't know if the Deluxe had a handbrake boot originally but a later Clubman boot will fit and looks the part. The new ones available look the same but don't have the stud to attach them to the carpet - hardly required anyway. |

yep. mine broke off before i got the car i think, the 2 parts of the popper sre still connected to each other, just not to the carpet. all it stops it doing is sliding up the brake lever itself, it does not hinder operation at all |

nice reponse "um. no" love it!
to me, it looks like either a) it never had one, as you suspect, or b) it had one that did not fix down. something like this could do the trick (maybe not this particular one though...

cooper s's didn't even have one..... your car didn't even have carpets, just rubber mats

Thanks guys, The old girl is totaly original and nothing has been changed/updated, its got all its trim, (internal and whats left of the wheels and sill silver trim, even the original gearshift rubber), original rubber flooring in the boot too, not even any after market sound proofing under the bonnet, so I thought it was odd that there was this exposed spring/hinge of the handbreak lever perfectly placed to chew up the seatbelts. I guess thats why its a "De Luxe" and not a Super DeLuxe - maybe those got the extra trim...! 
I will move on to the next thing .... |
