Post subject:  Spacing the rear wheels
Hi all
Hoping some of you could help........ I hav group 5 arches on the rear with a standard drum and 18mm spacer and 7mm spacer. The wheels are 12x5 performance minilights.
They sit 20mm inside the outside edge of the arch. On the front I hav metro discs and the wheels sit nicly under the arch.
Im wanting to know if anyone has had this prob??
I hav 2 solutions::::
1) to get 78mm studs and run a spaced drum and a 18mm spacer..
This will wear out the bearings????? Its not used as an everyday car so they will last a while.
2) hav a longer stub axel made and space the backing plate away from the arm or make a hub extension that would screw onto the axel and a spacer for the backing plate and hub.
can anyone help????

Think you need to talk to an engineer. Get spacered drums, then get the required width spacer made that actually bolts to the drum studs, and the spacer has its own set of studs for the wheel.

Back of my car currently runs a metro drum (7/8" or 3/4" instead of cooper 1" - only 'cause that's what I had)) AND a 23mm spacer :roll:
Technically the spacer should ony be 20mm to be legal (here) and it must be bolted to the drum (they are).
I needed this setup to get the front/rear track ratio back to where I wanted it, as you gain about 2" over stock with the metro vented front.

Difference between front and rear on a stock drum mini is 30 something mm. WIth no rear spacing and metro vented front It was more like 70mm :shock:

Nothing wrong with using long studs that go through the lot, is better than having double studs as suggested above because there's no bending stresses on the spacer this way.
Fit Timken rear wheel bearings, I doubt you will have any bearing problems then. :wink:

Yeah just re-read the post above....not sure I'd want to that way.

Mine use longer and thicker drum securing bolts that go through the spacer, through the spacered drum, and secure to drive flange. The studs are longer items too, coming all the way through from teh drive flange, just the same as stock ones.

Dr.. I will look for some bearings to replace the ones that will wear out.
smac .. how do you get on with wof man? Im here also...are you going to the mini meet in welly???

Brik nuts - the car is LVV certed so no worries there. Not entirely sure about Welly yet, the engine is on the bench, brakes about to be fully replaced, couple of doors need stripping, rebuilding, painting, fitting......so who knows! :lol: Where are you?
