Ok - how much should I expect to pay for a 61 round nose van that was issued in Australia as a genuine 4 seater, now it has one bit of rust about the size of a 20 cent piece in the side between door and rear wheel arch, it was issued to the Navy in the 60's new ad has been sitting about - it does need some paint and some parts but seems fine - no dents or rust in roof, sliding window doors are fine too and door hinges are perfect as are lockes etc etc, all chrome is straight - motor/front seats are non original mind you and has one of the Magic wand box/shifters etc..... I don't see it hard to get new seats mind you.

I don't know how much to expect to pay for it mind you? Zero rust practicaly - is this good or they come with no rust mostly? Are these things hard to come by?

What are the doors worth to buy on their own? What is a front clip worth to buy on its own?

Sorry for all the questions - I am only new so forgive me if they seem stupid.

Regards,

Mark

8k-14k i'd say, or more even. it depends, maybe the guy your getting it off doesnt know what its worth or doesnt want much for it.
i'd say it sounds like a great van, sliding window doors can cost $330 pounds new, or you can get some second hand ones much cheaper, van doors costs about $120 each from certain expensive mini shops. i have no idea what your talking about when you say "front clip"
how much has it been offered to you for? can you garantee its a ex navy vehicle? i have a morris 850, and its a ex navy car (came with genuine navy key fob and navy sticker on windscreen, also its blue with a white roof, which the navy did back in the day)

Hi,

Much depends on whether it is a van with a simple rear seat conversion (BMC or otherwise) or it's a Traveller/Countryman which was designed as a station wagon. Is the spare wheel bolted to the side or is it recessed into the floor under a wooden hatch just inside the rear doors?

If it's ex-Navy it should have a number welded to the dash. I heard of a similar car a few years ago. It was an imported Austin van with the non-removable grille which ads value.

Hard to put a value on it without seeing it or knowing what its like mechanically, but I'd say $1000-3500 if it's an Aussie van with a rear seat, $2000-5000 if it's a UK import van and $3000-7000 if it's a Traveller or Countryman.

Minis can rust quite nicely! Especially ones that have spent a lot of time in salt air. Given the Navy connection I'd be going over it very carefully with a magnet - it may be full of filler!

Cheers,

Well - It has the sales brocure with it that shows the girls sitting on back seat etc - its got the windows so I guess its a station wagon but its factory 4 seater, will check rest of info, I have bought it but I am still trying to decide what to do with it at moment. It has no bog in it at all - its been garaged all its life since the navy apparently and wasn't used at the docks - will check the dash tag info mind you.

330 pounds ! are you serious - that like nearly $800 each! I bought a few years ago as I knew this van would sell eventually but now I won't need them, I guess I could sell em seeing they are original and un patched.

front clip - sorry - 4x4 person of many years, front qyarters, support panels, bonnet, grill etc etc... all for a round nose.

wow - big difference in figures quoted I must say but interesting none the less - one means I got ripped off, the other means I did ok I guess, still - see how I go, mind you it will be a case of proof in the pudding at the end.

Thanks heaps for the advice though people, I know nothing about these cars really - I have had a few but never worked on em... just love driving them mind you.

Mark.

Pics would be great when you get the chance - I spent some time searching online, but it's hard to find a good pic of the rear seat (I have to find / make one for mine)..

Well done on your purchase and I hope ot all goes well for you.

Side windows are not the identifier really. Need more info

There were vans with a dealer fit BMC rear seat that appeared in the sales brochures. That was all they offered in Oz. It's likely this is what you have.

There was also the Traveller/Countryman which has sliding side windows in the rear with square corners (not rounded) and the spare wheel recessed into the rear floor under a wooden cover. This was not officially sold in Oz, but may have been available by special order.

Mark, if you need a hand to id this car or its parts rear seat etc I had a van in the 70's that had a rear seat so I am very familiar with this type and I now have an Austin Woody station wagon and I live in Kirrawee.

Ok - I got the mini home yesterday - faded horrible paint, front end damage etc but did learn a thing or 2.

It has rather good paint - the key is wash it and then give it a polish and you wouldbe amazed at what is under there! Rear seat is not fixed, it is a folding unit and provides a great deal of leg room. Spare is mounted under the floor as well it seems. I was wrong about rust - there is a patch but it is only surface rust - it hasn't gone thru it at all.... amazing!

I have asked AWOODY if he can post pics - if so and I am nice he pay put some pictures of it up for me so you can all see it. I wasn't able to find the number on the dash but I wasn't sure exactly where I should look to be honest. Tha paint inside the car is amazing - for 45 year old paint its beyond belief! It also has a little ventilation hatch fitted in the roof that certainly looks like a factory fitment. it like a rectangel in shape about 200mm long and 120mm wide with a latch on the inside... weird!

Paint should come out very nicely so I can probably get away with just painting t5he front end again - it may be repairable but I was given a spare front end to weld on if it had to be done. The guy is still digging out the spare grills and the bumper for it. I can't believe the key - its TINY - but it is the same for front, back and ignition locks... way cool!

Will keep you guys updated.

Mk

Well people, I am in a bit of a dilema - I have to admit that I don't have a digital camera and I can't post pics from work even if I tried.... are there any mini people out there who live in the shire and are interested in taking/posting some pics for me?

Ok - a few things I have found out are: It used to have the solid front with no grill? It was part of the body - I don't know what this means but it was replaced in the 80's with the normal grill? This does not make sense - did they have the "grill" as part of the body prior to having it as a separate part? If my guess is correct - can you gbuy the one piece front panel's still? I will graft it back on as part of the restoration - it looks like there will only be the painting of the front end too that is required... rest of paint is coming along nicely.

It has a Morris badge on the front.... these cars are so confusing - at least I knew what the go was with patrols....

The front panels with the integral grille were only on the UK produced mini's so it's sounding like this could be a mini traveller with the rear seat , spare wheel and battery in the rear . Where's the fuel tank , is it low on the right rear corner or higher up on the left side (right and left taken from the rear facing forward) ? The front panels with integral grille are no longer available new but turn up as new old stock on UK ebay from time to time , not cheap though ....
