Post subject: | Front Bearing Play. |
Has anyone had worn 7.5 inch disc brake front hubs? My cooper s front wheel had play and I changed the bearing set with new Timkens but the play is still evident. The outer bearing outer race could spin in the hub though there didn't seem to be any excessive amount of wear evident and some suitable Loctite seemed to stop the race rotation. However when reassembled, and drive flange torqued up to the 150ft/lb a small amount of play was still evident, mainly when grabbing wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock position. The upper and lower hub ball joints have no play. I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and found the hub worn sufficiently enough to stop correct bearing positioning ?? Otherwise looks like I'm up for a new hub. |

What you describe is not unheard of... I've heard (read) Dr Mini suggesting putting some loctite around the outer race to hold it in place and stop it from turning/moving, which you've done .... it does sound excessively worn - when (if) you pulled it apart again, was the outer race still secured by the loctite? |

I haven't pulled it apart again, but I did leave the Loctite a day to cure, and I could not rotate or move the race, so it was stuck in. I haven't driven the car since reassembly, the play was evident as soon as I finished torqueing up the shaft nut. I will have to pull apart and see. I guess some things don't last forever. |
