Hi

A little while ago I asked for owners of lift up door handled Mini K's to send me details of their cars. I had hoped that by now I could report on my findings but so far the response hasn't been enough to gather solid meaningful data.

I ask any owners of these machines that have not already sent me details to please do so. What I would like is primarily details off the ID plate, ie, month, year and car number. If it is known I would also like to know original colour and engine number.

If you know of someone with one of these vehicles and could ask them for the details described above I would be very grateful.

Hope to hear from a load of you soon. :D

Cheers
Steve

Hi

Sorry, I should have elaborated.

I am sure that the fable of the last 400 Mini K's were fitted with the lift up door handles is untrue. I am trying to determine just how many were made, to do this I need to get the body numbers and work out the spread of cars.

Cheers
Steve

Unfortunately Tiny if you search for it you find about 8 different versions of how many had the clubman doors , the information just isn't known so it's up to people like Steve to find out through people giving him the information . There are several registers of cars on here and they are all held by single people (not groups) and strictly in confidence , have a look at the 850 register I've got and the amount of cars on it whose details were provided on the condition I don't release them .

Hi

I understand what you mean Tiny but I don't even need to know who has the car, where it is or anything else that can id the person or place.

The actual body/engine numbers I collect wont be publicised, only the amount of seperate entries and the range that they encompass.

So far I haven't received any more data, I sure hope it wont stay that way. I only have data for about a dozen cars, even from this I feel quite confident in dispelling the "400" myth but would really like to have more cars on the list so I can say with more certainty.

Please send me details if you have them.

Cheers
Steve

Hi there Steve.

I've just sent you the details for my car...except for the colour, as it's unknown I'm afraid. And unfortunately the original engine is long gone.

But, upon closer inspection (and remembering that I'd wondered about them years ago), I noticed two sets of numbers on the firewall, to the left hand side of the opening for the speedo/loom...

They are as follows:

11231

2/05

(these second figures were upside down, and alot fainter, like the YG2S1 on the radiator fan cowling - could they have even been from the same punch set?, done at the same time?)

Could either of these be the code for the duco colour?
Sorry to mix questions with answers, hope your register goes well...
I look forward to results of any kind.

Jud

Hi Nathan.

2-3-4-5a-7 -10a-15-20
I think they're the Australian design rule numbers, because mine are exacty the same.

And doing the maths, your mini was less than 100 cars after mine from the factory!

Jud

Edit - Steve just informed me that even though the numbers ran consecutively, the assembly of the same cars did not. Excellent point. I stand corrected. :?
