Calling all mini K owners.

I stumbled accross this badge on ebay:

To cut a 14 year story short, I'm in the process of getting my '71 mini K back on the road. All that remains is the bonnet badge.
I've been through all of the related topics on this forum (thankyou for the advice from all), but I was just wanting to dispel the myth and confirm once and for all -

1. is this the badge that was used on Australian Mini K's?
2. Would it be to concourse specs if I were to use one like this? Or is it a Mk2 Morris 1100 bonnet badge?
3. Was the Australian mini K bonnet badge completely silver, or was it silver with red and blue in the usual places?
4. Did the mini K bonnet badge chrome surround mounted via three pins, or was it completely flat?

Any answers to these tricky questions would be greatly appreciated.

that badge appears to be the same as the Mini K badge I have on my desk right this very minute - pins are in the same locations as that one. The paint is in the correct locations on that badge. My badge has remnants of the paint there, but is mostly all gone

edit - I didn't realise the ebay one was UK until after I'd posted.... another detail to tell that it is a mini one is the small indentation at the back of the bezel at the top - it's a little cut-out to clear the ridge in the centre of the mini bonnet

It's good to know that you compared the ebay item with the real thing in your hand...that's the kind of 'hard evidence' I needed!

I believe the Mini-K badge is the same as UK Mk2 Morris Mini badge, IF you can find one...

if that's the case, then likely to be what we're looking at on ebay - certainly looks the same as the one on the 1967 MK2 in one of my books

will be interesting to see where it finishes on ebay, might be rarer in UK than out here

I emailled Somerford Mini last week. They quickly replied by saying that they were currently out of stock, and were looking to have a new batch made within the next few months. They were very polite about though.

I was able to track down another mini K badge here in Aus...a very weathered example, but it has been offered to me without the chrome bezel. So that would be another problem I couldn't solve.

This is something I have to get right.

The Mini King in Narellan was looking into getting repro K badges produced.

Ring John at Mini KIng, I know of three chrome bezels for the Mini K badge down there but im not sure on the actual badge itself.

Jud, if you're in Sydney, I believe the Powerhouse Museum has an original Mini K in its collection (it has been resprayed, in original colour). I stumbled across this page on the internet just the other day - you can zoom in on the photos altho they get a bit fuzzy. The badge is entact and has its colours still, plus the bezel.

Wow! What a fantastic exhibit that is!

It's so good to know that a stock Mini K has become public property. It must be interesting for most people to look at (and perhaps a bit nostalgic too), but for us Mini K owners, it's actually a really valuable resource, in the present tense.

For example, I've also got a pair of mint decals that I plan on putting on my car, but have always been at a loss as to what the factory positioning of them was - to the millimetre. Now, when I go to Syd in November, I can go there, and check the decals out on that car to know for sure.

I wonder if it is actually on display though. I'm sure the Powerhouse collection is a massive beast, with only a small percentage on display. Perhaps I'll give them a call to confirm. If it's in storage, perhaps I can organise a time to see it. As part of my post-grad studies (at the ANU by the way!), I requested the viewing of an artwork at the NGA. As a tax paying citizen, I had the right to request a viewing of anything in the archives.

Perhaps it's the same thing with this little gem at the Powerhouse...this'll be good! Thanks again.

Well if you are focussed on the absolute factory measurements (However I doubt if anything at BMC Australia was measured with an absolute value) You might consider that the stickers on the Powerhouse K might have been removed and replaced when it was resprayed, maybe they're not in the right spot?
So for the sake of comparison, I measured the stickers on the Mini K I have in the garage, it is in it's factory paint with the factory stickers in excellent condition. I got measurements of 62.5 from the vertical edge of the door to the rear edge of the sticker, and as there no other real datums to use for the vertical, I got 125mm from the bottom of the lower forward hinge stud hole to the horizontal tangent of the lower edge of the sticker.

I travel around to the other side of the factory untouched mini K and measure the sticker position on the other side. I get 62.5 once again, but the vertical measurement is 105...some 20 mm less!

So I think the best method to placing stickers is to copy the BMC work ethic. Tie a hanky around your head, put a roll-your-own in the corner of your mouth and slap the sticker on! Doing this after a liquid lunch may improve it's positioning further.
