Post subject: | Quick Leyland Quiz |
I'm still sorting through my archives (switched from brochures to bulletins for a change of pace , brochures are painful and there's still 50 or so to go ![]() According to a service letter in April 1981 , what oil consumption did Leyland consider the upper end of normal for a 1275 Moke , they gave a figure per XXXX klm's for freeway conditions and a figure per XXXX Mixed driving conditions using 20W/50 oil . Basically I'm talking the figures that would have to be exceded before they would even consider looking at it for warranty No prize for getting it right , just a laugh basically . A scan of the relevent part of the service letter will be posted later tonight . |

1 L/2000kms freeway....maybe... For a mini I'd say less, but since it's a Moke, an 'Ag' vehicle, it goes through more. ![]() ![]() |

I'd say they are NOT wanting to to accept a warranty claim so make it ridiculous Say 1 litre per 500Km highway and 1 litre per 100km mixed |

They use more oil at higher revs, so 1litre per 1000kms hwy use & 500ml per 1000kms mixed round town use ![]() Go on , Whack up the service letter, we got the same one years ago & i remember having a laugh about it then, still a good laugh now tho too ![]() |

Well , like I said , some were close , some weren't .... ![]() Basically they say a new motor is allowed to use 1 ml of oil per klm in mixed driving and 1 1/2 ml of oil per klm at freeway speeds ![]() ![]() ![]() I wonder if you could quote this to get an oil burner past a rego inspection ![]() |

Well, last year we drove Barney (1293A+ Moke motor) 2000Kms around Tassie, all told he only used about 500mL of 20W/50 Fuchs oilz. Motor has done around 10,000 miles since rebuild I think. I guess pistons and rings these days must be better than back then. ![]() |

You only gave half the answer Doogie , you didn't say how many klm that was for so you only get half a point . I'm just wondering , if it's acceptible for Leyland for a 1275 moke to use 1 1/2 ml of oil per klm , and a Clubman (can't find a Moke Californian off hand) was rated as using 7 litres per 100 klm . That means it uses 1 1/2 ml of oil to 70 ml of petrol per klm which relates as 46.666 (repeat , can't find the repeat symbol):1 (fuel:oil ratio) which isn't far off what a 2 stroke chain saw or garden trimmer's ratio ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You watch , my Moke won't start next time I try because of that ![]() |
