Post subject:  To sell or not to sell??

I've had Mokesta since 1994 and she was in bits until 1999 when I finished the re-build. Since then she's travelled an average of 2,000 km each year. In the last two years she's been out of the garage about 6 times.

I also own Camilla, a sad little mini with a big heart. She is arguably more fun to drive than Mokesta but is a bit dodgy underneath. She's only done about 2,000 km this year.

Neither of my cars are really suitable for a good track day thrashing.

I want to go to a few Time Attack track days and the odd Mt Cotton skid pan day etc.

The useless "mini specialist" who has had my project car shell and $2,500 since January but hasn't even started work on it is pissing me off. This is crippling my Suzuki engine conversion project. I really suffer from a lack of time to do the conversion anyway due to two little kids.

A good mate of mine has an MX-5 and knows of a good one for sale. So I am tempted to sell Mokesta and Camilla and get the MX-5. There is a good MX-5 forum with active drive day scene in Brisbane (at least 4 track days per year). The MOCQ doesn't... An MX-5 wouldn't need a $10k engine like a mini to last years of track days. Virtually all of the speed parts are simply bolt-on.

Apart from the emotional attachment to Mokesta and the pain it would bring to sell her and see a new owner crash/rice/neglect her, has anyone got a good reason why I shouldn't sell??

If you are a potenital buyer and want to know about Mokesta, do a search on here. There are lots of photos. Alternatively, PM me and I'll give details.

Both my cars are parked in my garage by a bloody big skip at the moment so any sale won't be occurring for at least another month when my extension is finished.

The "mini specialist" who has my project car shell and $2,500 bought a car (non-mini) from a bloke I know. He took posession of the car in early January and is yet to pay for it. The seller of the car is soon going to reposess it.

The "mini specialist" is trying to flog surplus cars and bits on ebay.

So, I reckon the "mini specialist" is having a cash flow crisis, has spent my money and now doesn't have enough to buy the panels to fix my car.

Gives me the shits and makes me want to give it up.

Who wants a sand blasted and primed shell, with holes plus Suzuki G13B??

Buy the MX-5.
I'm really sorry for the pain this Mini Expert has caused but your not the first and won't be the last until he go to jail.
That two and a half big ones that you paid mate has probably bought some dodgey import Jap Minis from South Australia that he will 'modify' to become legal.
The thing is this ning nong has been dodgey for more than twenty years. Importing Jap cars in half cuts, welding them back together, and the re-vin ing them. Yes I know of an employee of his that was paid in a dodgely RX-7 in leui of wages!!!!
I wish we could 'OUT' this bastard on this forum.

why can't Mokesta be run in light competition?

you don't have to depend on the mini club to do competition in it, organise 4 or 5 mini owners, and join a local "generic" sporting car club who do sprints and whatnot, all you do is make sure you and your mini buddies are having fun as a group within the group (obviously participate as members of the club and give back where necessary). The MX5 boys might let you tag along if there are enough minis to fill up a track session

damn shame about getting money taken off you - get it back, get it all back - maybe you can sell Camilla, and use that to fund more of your suzuki build...

I vote to keep mokesta as that is the really important one, and get the mx5. Borrow the $$ if you have to, but don't sell mokesta if you will really regret it. If you can bear to part, then there is your answer.

Or just spend some more money on one of your road going minis(icl moke) and do some sprints. Great track out here at Warwick, easier to get into the sprints than you'd think.

I'm pretty sure I know the mini 'specialist' you speak of, get a lawyer and hit him up for the money, don't go gently, he will tell you he'll pay but never will. Go hard or you won't ever see a dime.

Good Luck!

Not here they can't be ....

Mokesta can of curse discuss it off the forums (PM or email...) but definitely not on here .

I'm sure you didn't mean to imply that Steve is bringing in "dodgey" stuff - just that you cannot comply the later cars at the moment
