Hi

I bought an 850 front half cut (with engine) a while ago, took off the rocker cover today to find it has a 12g295 head on the block...

What modifications would have been done to fit the head onto the 850 block? or do these bolt straight on?

I'm restoring an 850 whose engine will need a rebuild.. so i got the half cut for spares etc... could i put the 12g295 head onto my original 850 block, or will i need to modify the block in some way? in that case i might as well rebuild the engine from the half cut as it would already have these mods...

Cheers

Bolt on job, no mods needed unless exhaust valves have been increased to silly sizes.
C/R will be pretty low though, the 295 has a HUGE combustion chamber.

Compression should be ok if it was already on an engine

It has probably already been shaved to compensate for combustion chamber i would think??????

Thats what i would think?, but dont take my word for it

9YaTaH, couldnt see the engine number on the block, its faded... on the compliance plate it started with a 2 from memory...

Dr. is there any point, preformance wise, in putting the head on an 850?

2??? How about 12?? The point I was making is the front-cut donor engine sounds like a bigger one (and might be a possibley better combination) unless you are after originality...and in that case, leave the original head on the 850.

Yes an 850 does go better with a 295, even if C/R is low.
it is common to shave these heads, check the head thickness.
original was 2.750".

9YaTaH, I've taken the original 850 engine out of the car i'm restoring and there is a big "850" written on the block on the side closest to the firewall... The other engine is still on the half cut, but i could just make out the "850" on the same spot, so im fairly sure it is an 850 block...

Dr. ok thanks, will check the thickness sometime.
