Post subject:  so my car now has seatbelts.. and my door handle snapped off

Fark it's weird driving my car with seatbelts now after nearly 2 years of no seatbelts! I went to change my radio and almost strangled myself. The straps aren't obviously for small cars as I've got so mch slack it's ridiculous... have to grab one of those seatbelt padding things and tuck it all in I thinks.

...anyway other thing is I get in the car to leave the workshop, and my drivers inside handle snaps clean off!

It's an 850 door long chrome shiny handle (probably original?). What are my chances of finding one of these or is it a whole new lock time?

Other thing, I don't like the fact that 850 doors are really rough to strike (you've really go to slam them), is it feasable to convert to a easier shutting door? I had a clubman for a bit and that shut so easy it was awesome.

Before anyone asks, i've got the correct door rubbers and the locks/strike plate are in good nicka nd adjusted comfortably. I can push out mine a bit more (makes it slightly easier to close) but then the door sticks out a bit when it's shut.

Cheers, (i'll add pics later.. it's raining like crap in melbourne and it's too cold to go outside.)

re the doorlocks, grease the tongues where they stick out of the door. Grease is a bit messy but drylube less so.
The handles should be available s/h on here, someone must have some. Or try the UK suppliers like www.minispares.com

Is it the actual bit that goes in and out of the door though? I always thought it was just a bad design given the whole concept is striking the door latch against the striker to lock it in place over the raised edge of the striker plate. Hmm, i'll go whack some grease on it tommorow morn and see.. thx for the (now painfully obvious) suggestion. I hate you :).

If you have inertia reels well fair enough....but if you have "old fashioned" seat belts than you should be firmly strapped in your seat and not be able to lean forward much at all....IF you want them to work properly in a sudden stop  :D

Yeah i'm firmly strapped in, what I meant was when they are adjusted so that i'm firmly strapped in the slack from the bit where all the adjusted belt goes is much longer then the firm length of belt keeping me in place.

(i just read the above and that doesn't make any sense to me, hopefully it does to someone)

i have seen plenty of 850 doors that don't take to much effort to close them, if you really have to slam it then they aren't adjusted right.

Yeah agree...what are the hinges like...can you move the end of the door up and down much :?:

i reco'd my drivers side one late last year because it had some movement, passenger had none.

Currently both sides have no movement :(. I think my locks might be stuffed or I need new strike plates (door lock slidey things move in and out ok by hand when I push them in).
