Did any leyland's ever come with a magic wand style 'box? I'm looking at a clubman & quite a few spares for $1500, just wandering if it would be worth it, the body looks quite tidy and rust free, but I'd probably have another good look at it to make sure.

Yes, they did, I have a 1972 clubby with the old puddin stirer , I think the early ones did mate, but I'm sure there's someone out there that will give you the exact numbers.

they came out as a cheap model, mainly sold to councils etc. - so leyland could say that they had a car in the lowest price bracket etc.

And fewer survived intact as they were normally fleet cars , thrashed then sold even cheaper and modified by young fella's . I've seen a couple , one even had a full roundie interior from new but it was a very early clubman .

My first car I ever owned was a 72 Clubman van with puddin stirrer and centre spedo. The first mod I did was to change to two pod clubman instruments. Very high tech.

If it has a magic wand it is not a Clubman. (FACT)

Then what are the square nosed Leyland mini's with the magic wand and roundie guages ? Left over bits recepticles ?

They are called "Mini 1100"

They built a lot of square nosed Minis in Australia but only two models were actually called Clubman. (Mini Clubman and Clubman GT, built between 71 and 72)

Mini 1100 might be what they were badged as you are right. I had one myself It was white and it was gerat we drove it from Bris to Sydney to Melbourne back in 1983 . Was a great car. It had the long stick and centre speedo. and when I checked there was no hole in the floor where normally a Clubby gear stick comes out. It had no chreome around the door frames either. I think they were the poverty pack model of the time. I sold it in 1985 for about $1300 when we needed a bigger car.

I find it funny that when the general public refer to a roundnose as a "Cooper S" we all groan and roll our eyes.
Every squarenose Mini is a "Clubman" and that is Ok.

The Mini 1100 is the forgotten Mini. It deserves respect and needs to come out of the shadow of the Mini Clubman.

Possibly , but I've seen internal leyland material referring to all mini's produced from 72 to 78 as clubmans so it is a name that has been long used to describe all mini's with the square front , whether strictly accurate or not . As for roundies it was only 10 or 15 years ago that they were all mini 850's
