Post subject: | Mini Moke Fiji |
My dad just got back from from visiting his parents in Fiji and saw this in the Saturday paper. He cut it out and brought it back to show me. I think it sounds very interesting, although I'm not sure I agree with the comfortable part, and the Moke is a convertible is it? Anyways, enjoy your read. ![]() ![]() ![]() From Fiji Times, 13/8/07. |

Fiji dives into the up to the minute technology market? What about the donk? I can't see anything in there about it. Obviously won't be an A-Series. |

Just goes to show you can never keep a true classic down! All I need now is that F***kwit journalist Tony Davis's e-mail address. Long live the Moke! |

Says electronic ignition, but no mention of fuel injection. So who knows what will be under the bonnet, my guess is 998A+ (doubt they'd use big-bores when they mention eco-friendly stuff) as really not much else fits, unless they are using different subframes. Overall, I think it's awesome! Discs standard, (8.4s my guess), galv bodies (a must in tropical conditions!!), sealed waterproof electrics (about time!!). Chokes's for Islander's 2007. - Think I must add this to my sig. ![]() |

Heard mention by one of the Australian importers they are looking at Fiat engines down the track. But it was more a throw away line and I didn't pick up on it at the time. More interested in getting the body work right first then they will look at getting a whole car to a complience state. Not to say a country like FiJi with no or minimal registration laws they can't experiment with ![]() |

I don't know much about modern ADRs (my car doesn't have have a compliance plate saying what ADRs it complies too as it's pre that, ID plate, oh yeah ![]() But it'd be awesome if there was some loop hole that allowed these as brand new cars. With a modern motor they would be great. |

I'd say it's pretty much an angle grinder and a welder..... |

I would guess they would go with a currently available engine. They're so cheap and with no tooling up costs. Tooling up costs are everything. Especially with 10 odd million cars coming out of China, their will be a few stray SOHC 70 odd Kw engines lying around. Do you think this is more of a short term excersize? Maybe 300 or so mokes to fill a market and gone? The chinese don't mind fostering a few friendships down this end of the very fishable pacific. Why do you think we care about the Pacific islands so much, it's not because they are covered in rainforest and make great photographic opportunities. |

The company behind the Chokes is headed up by a Canadian and an Australian. They have registered the name Moke (After challenging the right of Leyland to still hold it) and I'm told they are in it for the long haul worldwide. Amongst the Moke world it is a bit of a Mini/ Bini argument but I see it as a good source of new parts and bolt on bits |
