If it's a Cooper 'S'/GT hub it's 1 5/16 inches. Cooper Discs and Drum brakes use the same size but I don't know it off the top of my head. Cheers, Simon |

Then 1 5/16 is the go. The only problem is that most torque wrenches seem to be 1/2 inch drive and most 1 5/16 sockets seem to be 3/4 inch drive so you end up buying a $20 adapter to torque up your hub correctly. |

Try an engineering supply place , blackwoods or similar . They normally have them in 1/2" drive , might have to get it as a deep socket depending on what they have . Don't bother with bunnings or supercheap , they don't normally stock them . It'll probably cost you $15-20 but well worth buying . Take an old nut with you to make sure of the size though as you might have to settle for metric . |

You'll only buy it once and then you'll wonder why you mucked around with shifters trying to do it . I put off buying one for years then got caught with too small a shifter and bought one , I wondered how I got away without one for so long . Get the steering wheel one while you're at it too , very handy . |

I bought my socket and adaptor from 'The Tool Man' next to Paddy's Market, near Mawsome lakes on Main North Road. The bloke who runs the place is nice, and helpful. Also it's the steering wheel socket too, so I think it's worth the buy. And it won't cost all that much, really. For good quality. A torque wrench, however, that's another kettle of fish. I've seen you can buy cheap ones from Supercrap from between $20-$150, some higher. I wouldn't touch the $20....ever. It is vital that the wrench is accurate and doesn't over tighten (could break import stuff) or under tighten (could fall off while driving!). I would save up and buy a good quality, proper brand one. My dad has a really good one so I borrow that, I think you'll need to find a mate (or parents?) who has one and borrow it, as they are very important. And when you buy one, you'll have it for life, but you need the money to get one in the first place. Call some nice mates, I can't lend you my dad's (his rules, for good reason), unless you brought the breaks up to my house to work on it I guess. ![]() |

The wheel one is the steering wheel isn't it? Or is that just drum brakes (front and rear)? |

You can buy an inch and five sixteenth socket in 1/2 inch drive... They are the Black ones which are the impact type. They are single hex and stronger. |
