Are you supposed to lube your steering column?

My GT column is a bit stiff from sitting idle for 20 odd years.

The top and bottom bushes are fine with no play. Do I have to lube it to make it turn a bit better?

I've used a smear graphite grease, but not sure if that's kosher. I think any sort of dry lube would be worthwhile.

I use Castrol HMP grease, it works good on nylon bushes.
If you have a felt lower bush (early cars) soak it in oil.

Hey Anton..... does this relate to your ball joints too!? I recall you had some issues when you set them up?

Just be sure your stiff steering is not actually the hub ball joints too tight.

Although, as mentioned before, without fettling with grinding paste, they can be a bit stiff when new, but they will soon free up! :P
