Post subject: | Adjusting Throttle Cables |
hi, i'm woundering how people adjust there throttle cable when they are installed. i put medium tension on the cable and then tighten the nut up. i have been have problems with the cable sticking when you first touch the pedal. it;s hard and crunchy then goes soft, but after a while driving the pedal feels perfect. whats causing this? |

Is the cable new? Have you tried lubing the cable at all? |

Sounds like you need a new accelerator cable, or something else needs lubing up (Pedal or Carbie). |

Grab some graphite powder, and get a goodly amount onto the cable, and in the sheath. You'll be amazed the difference it will make to the throttle feel. |

You can get it from hardware shops. The ends of the cable if forced through funny angles through the bulkhead or the carb end fittings can cause problems. This is where you will see them break as well. |

If you can't avoid a sharp turn in the cable, the graphite will help here too -- it'll delay the wear on the inner so it'll last longer ![]() ![]() |
